House FavoriteA Modesto Tradition · Since 1975
Hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood, and a touch of Basque tradition — served in the same booths, by the same fireplace, that have welcomed the Central Valley for five decades.
Our Story
Gervasoni's opened its doors in 1975 in downtown Modesto, on a quiet alley that locals came to know simply as "on the Alley." Gary Gervasoni built a steakhouse with a Basque heart — a place where farmers, ranchers, and families gathered for hand-cut beef, generous portions, and a stiff drink at the bar.
In 2017 we packed up the booths, the light fixtures, the long wooden bar, and even the fireplace, and moved them to our McHenry Avenue home. The table numbers came with us. Regulars still call ahead and ask for "their" booth — and we still know exactly which one they mean.
Today, mother-and-daughter owners Rosalie Hernandez and Serena Sisson keep the kitchen, the bar, and the welcome going strong. Same recipes. Same hospitality. Same Gervasoni's.
A Standing Tradition
When Gary Gervasoni opened the restaurant in 1975, his chef was Basque — and family-style Basque suppers became a Wednesday-night institution. The chef has changed; the tradition hasn't.
Each Wednesday, our kitchen serves a rotating set of Basque-country classics alongside our regular menu. Come hungry. Bring company.
